Consulate-General of Japan
at Seattle

Link to Consulate-General of Japan website

Consulate-General of Japan in Seattle was originally founded in 1895 and was located in Tacoma. It was the 4th Japanese Consulate established in the U.S. Because of Seattle's growing development and ties with Japan, heightened by both the opening of the Japan-Seattle Steamship-Line in 1896 and the start of the 1897 Gold Rush in Alaska, our office was relocated to Seattle in 1901. The first Seattle office was located at the Dexter Horton Building on Second Avenue in downtown.

Our jurisdiction extends through Washington, Northern Idaho, and Montana. The Consulate-General of Japan at Seattle assists not only the Japanese nationals living within our jurisdiction, but also the local communities by providing cultural and general information about Japan in hopes of strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Japan and our neighbors in the Pacific Northwest.

This year, Consulate-General of Japan in Seattle office helps present a feature anime movie, Doraemon the Movie 2006: Nobita's Dinosaur in 2008 Aki Matsuri. Japanese with English subtitles.
