Bellevue Sister Cities Association (BSCA) seeks to promote understanding and cultural interchange between Eastside residents and our four sister cities abroad (one being Yao in Osaka, Japan). We do this through such activities as high school student exchanges, delegation visits and other exchanges. We also assist Bellevue City Hall's staff exchanges with these four cities, providing valuable learning experience and exchange of knowledge on urban administration in a democracy.

The Bellevue -Yao Committee of BSCA is joining in the Aki Matsuri for the 9th consecutive year. Members will welcome inquiries about our role in making the Eastside more globally engaged and helping expand the mental horizons of all residents to encompass other cultures.

See photos of this summer's exchange students. Connor Surdi, a Newport High School Freshman has studied Japanese for seven years. He knows Seattle's Ichiro personally …this probably makes him a hero to his new family in Japan, and his family has hosted BCC students from Japan for 14 years.

Stop by the Yao table. Find the location of Yao on a big map, and browse an assortment of small gifts to buy such as "A Peek at Japan"; a book autographed by the author (a Yao BSCA member) will again be on sale for young learners. Also available will be origami earrings, unique handmade folded Japanese greeting cards by Bellevue-Yao members, porcelain, nick-knacks, lacquer, dolls, crafts. We will offer a sale of four Yao student oil paintings exhibited at the Sister Cities International Competition in Washington DC.

Brochures pertaining to BSCA activities will be available, as well as information and pictures describing the summer student exchange program. Learn more about Yao. Ask about our activities and join the fun. There may be a trip to Yao for you in the future?

Stop by our booth for information, or contact Hugh Burleson (425-746-9675) or Florence Metcalf (425-746-2853).
