A
New Generation Carries on a Legacy
The dream for a Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Washington
(JCCCW) is coming true: ONE PLACE for Japanese cultural and community
activities! This project is a branch of Nikkei Heritage Association
of Washington (NHAW), a non-profit organization, hoping to build a
new facility at the historic Seattle Japanese Language School.
|
Issei
pioneers developed the school's site over hundred years ago. Today,
a new generation is hoping to carry on that legacy by preserving and
expanding the site. It is hoped that the currently active buildings
will be rehabilitated with a new addition on the remaining vacant
land to accommodate a variety of martial arts, community gatherings,
language classes, performances, Japanese arts, historical archive,
and cultural resources.
NHAW/JCCCW program pillars are:
- Community
Gathering Place
- Multicultural,
Intergenerational Education
- Arts,
Culture and Language
- Historic
Preservation and Heritage
- International
Exchange
