Sachi Tanimoto was born in Kobe, Japan. She studied Calligraphy at an early age from her father, Soshu Tanimoto, a calligraphy master, and later became a Certified Calligraphy Instructor.

From the time she was a teenager, Sachi was a self-taught kiri-e artist, which inspired her to attend an exhibition of Masayuki Miyata (a kiri-e Master known throughout Japan). She was so impressed that she contacted him to learn how to improve her skills. He said he didn't teach, but referred her to Ryosuke Ishida, the President of the Japanese Senga Association (JSA). He then referred her to Toru Otsuki, the Vice President.

Since 1993, Sachi has been a student of Otsuki Sensei, and has been a member of the JSA. Later she became a Certified Senga Instructor, and has been occasionally teaching. She displays a new work annually to be entered and judged in the yearly JSA Tokyo Exhibition. She has won some awards as her technique has improved such as: a New Member's Award, early on, and recently she won First Prize for her work in the JSA 2000 Tokyo Exhibit and the Excellence Award in the 2005 Exhibit.

Now living in Bellevue, WA Sachi participates in Aki Matsuri events.

She has been a member of an art gallery, entered juried shows, and has displayed her work in other galleries on the Eastside and in Edmonds.
