Yamabiko
is a non-profit organization founded in June, 1995 in Tokyo, Japan
by seven volunteer members for the purpose of recording and delivering
Japanese books on tape for those who enjoy "reading" through
their ears.
The books are in Japanese, read aloud by volunteers and recorded onto
audio tapes and CDs. Until recently these operations had mainly taken
place in Japan, but now Yamabiko has begun to distribute tapes and
CDs in the United Sates of America. The service is free of charge.
The category of tapes available includes a wide range of novels, and
a variety of monthly selected articles from "Koe-no-zasshi (Vocal
Magazine).
Since inception; Yamabiko has been donating and distributed recorded
tapes to the Seattle Library Book Mobile, nursing homes and day-care
facilities in Portland OR, San Paulo Brazil, San Francisco CA, and
Toronto Canada and the Japanese Language Division of City University
of Hong Kong.
Last year, thank to our participating for ENMA, it was very fortunate
for us that we were finally able to find the way to reach individuals
from Japan; especially those who have been in US for long time and
maintain interest in Japanese language
We are very much grateful to ENMA for giving us such an opportunity.
