Congratulations
to the Eastside Nihon Matsuri Association on the 11th year of Aki
Matsuri! The Consulate-General of Japan is pleased to continue its
role as one of the founding co-sponsors of this event and I wish to
express my great appreciation to those individuals and organizations
that continue to help realize this treasured annual event on the Eastside.
This year, Aki Matsuri features a special guest from Japan - a sword
man, Iwami Toshio, who is the 11th Headmaster of the Hyoho Niten Ichi-ryu,
a style of swordsmanship founded by the famed Miyamoto Musashi
(1584-1645) about 400 years ago. Mr. Iwami and his two students will
give two embu demonstrations which will be joined by about
60 exhibitors, numerous live performing artists, many other martial
arts demonstrations, and a several cultural and educational workshops.
My office is also proud to help present a feature anime
movie, Doraemon the Movie 2006: Nobita's Dinosaur. Earlier
this year in March, the popular anime character, Doraemon, was designated
as the official "Anime Ambassador" by the Japanese Minister
for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Masahiko Koumura. We hope this feature will
entertain the young and young at heart, who visit this year's Aki
Matsuri.
My office will be among the exhibitors, distributing a variety of
complimentary materials to introduce the culture of and tourism in
Japan. So, please stop by our booth, when you visit the Aki Matsuri!
(The first hundred
people to mention, "I read the greeting by your Consul General,
and the secret phrase is "Doraemon loves dorayaki", will
receive a small gift from our friendly staff.)
