Workshop at Aki Matsuri!

Beat a Different Drum ~
Come Learn Taiko (Japanese drumming)
at the 11th Annual Aki Matsuri, a Japanese Cultural Arts Festival!

Experience
the Taiko art form hands-on! RTG-Seattle, an alliance of 8 performing
taiko groups in Seattle, will host a series of taiko workshops. Learn
to play Japanese-style drums with kata (form and stance), rhythm and
historical/cultural context. No experience necessary!
Registration is first come-first served basis and pre-registration
is suggested to ensure a space. To pre-register, please send e-mail
to president@enma.org. Pre-registration
deadline is Sunday, August 31, 2008.
On-site registration will also be offered on a space-available basis.

*NOTE: All workshop participants (or parent/guardian for those
under age 18) will be required to sign a liability waiver on arrival
prior to the workshop.

A) Family Taiko Workshop -- children ages 7 years old and
under, with parent/adult helper
In this hands-on workshop, we will "talk story" about taiko,
make our own "gomi-kan taiko" (play drum -- which the kids
get to keep!), see a demonstration, practice on our "gomi-kan
taiko" then learn to hit real taiko with style! (Each child must
be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult.)

6 (Saturday), 2008 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
- Pre-registration:
$15 per child with parent/adult (On-site Registration: $18)

is limited to 10 children (each child must have a parent/adult
partner)

B) Adult Taiko Workshop -- for 16 years and older
Learn the fundamentals of taiko rhythm, movement and spirit through
drumming games, easy songs and simple (but possibly strenuous!) movements.
Release tensions, improve rhythm and coordination, have fun!

C)Youth Taiko Workshop -- for 8-15 years old
Do you like to jump around, swing sticks and pound on drums? Learn
the basics of taiko through drumming games and movement exercises.
Fun for everyone and no prior experience needed!
