IKEBANA, the Japanese art of flower arranging, is one of the oldest traditional arts of Japan, built on centuries of study. In modern days, ikebana has expanded around the world and blossomed into an internationally recognized art form.

Ikebana International is a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion and appreciation of ikebana. Founded in 1956 by Ellen Gordon Allen in Tokyo, Japan, it now has 165 chapters in 50 countries with a membership of about 8,500.

The Seattle Chapter of Ikebana International was chartered in 1959, the 19th chapter of the Tokyo-based organization. Currently the chapter has around 100 active members practicing and teaching the art of ikebana. They share this joy through the chapter's annual Spring Exhibition as well as numerous other public exhibits and demonstrations.

Ikebana encompasses many different styles of flower arrangement. Schools represented in the Seattle Chapter are: Hua Yuan, Ichiyo, Ikenobo, Koenshu, Kofu, Koryu Shoto-Kai, Nihon Koryu, Ohara, Ryusei-Ha, Saga Goryu, Senke, Senke-Seishin, Sen Sho Ikenobo, Shofu-Kadokai, Shofu-Ryu, Sogetsu, Wafu and Yushoru.

Ikebana International, Seattle Chapter No.19, welcomes this opportunity to exhibit and demonstrate ikebana at the Aki Matsuri and promote "Friendship Through Flowers"..
